Read on to find out which one you should get.
Are Epson Ecotank Printers Any Good?
Anything endorsed by Shaq seems like a slam dunk (excuse the pun, it’s the only one we’ll make, promise!), but are these printers really any good? Also known as supertank printers, these have a very unique feature that honestly should have become the norm for printers years ago.
If you’ve bought or used any inkjet printer, then you’re probably very aware of ink cartridges. They’re expensive, use a significant amount of plastic, and have a small amount of ink. Plus, you usually need to buy several different cartridges for color printers. You’ll end up spending hundreds of dollars just on ink.
Ecotank does things differently. The ink tank is refillable. Instead of cartridges, you’ll buy the ink directly. Simply squirt the ink into the ink tank and you can print thousands of copies with ease. Most people only need to refill once a year, and that’s with consistent printing.
Not only that, but the printers themselves are very good. They all come with various functions, have great printing resolution, good speeds when compared to similar inkjets, and are fantastic for your home, office, or any other setting.

Epson Ecotank ET-15000 vs ET-2720: Functions
Our Epson Ecotank ET-2720 vs Epson Ecotank ET-15000 review that while these printers look very different, they share many of the same functions. While 15000 does have extra functions and features, the basics are covered by both models.
Let’s start with what they share. Both of these printers offer printing, scanning, and copying functions. You can use the flatbed scanner both for scanning and copying, which is handy if you only have a few sheets.
Now, let’s talk about what you get exclusively with the ET-15000 Ecotank. This printer also offers faxing, a document feeder for bulk copying and scanning, and you can attach paper through the back for larger printing.
Another very important feature is duplex printing. Can the Epson Ecotank 2720 do double-sided printing? Technically yes, but it’s manual duplex printing, meaning you need to flip the sheets yourself.
Can the Epson Ecotank 15000 do double-sided printing? Yes, it automatically flips the sheets for you, which is much more convenient and efficient.
Which is better? It comes down to your needs. We think offices and businesses would prefer the 15000 because it has extra features that are handy for your daily needs. If you’re using this at home or only need the basics, then the 2720 might be better because it’s cheaper, but you are missing out on features.

Epson Ecotank 15000 vs 2720: Printing Speed
Many of our other reviews found that Ecotanks tend to have similar printing speeds. However, that’s very different here. We’ll get into specifics soon, but our Epson Ecotank ET-15000 vs Epson Ecotank ET-2720 review found that 15000 is about 1.5x faster than 2720.
Printing speeds largely depend on what you’re printing and how you’re doing it. For example, color printing tends to be slower than black-and-white, and printing tends to be faster than copying. That being said, Epson is good about giving us numbers on how quickly these printers should work.
We found that with black printing you get 10PPM with 2720 and 15PPM with 15000. In terms of color printing, you get 5PPM with 2720 and 7PPM with 15000. Copying is similar. 2720 has copying speeds of 8PPM black and 4PPM color while 15000 offers 12PPM black and 6PPM color.
That may not seem like a huge difference, but let’s compare this with a realistic scenario. Let’s say you need to print a 100-page document. It’d only take 6.5 minutes with the 15000 against 10 minutes with the 2720.
While we can’t say it’s a huge difference in speed, we definitely preferred what the 15000 offered.
Epson Ecotank ET-2720 vs ET-15000: Paper Size
Both of these can work with common sizes like 8.5×11 or 5×7 photo paper, but is there any different in the paper sizes they support or how much paper they hold? There is. Once again we found that 15000 offers more in this regard.
The overall paper types these printers support include:
- 3.5×5
- 4×6
- 5×7
- 8×10
- 8.5×11
- 8.5×14
- A4
- A6
- Executive
- Half Letter
- No. 10 Envelopes
- 13×19 Through Rear Feed (Epson Ecotank ET-15000 only)
Not only does 15000 offer a larger paper size, but it also has a larger paper tray. The 2720 only holds 100 sheets of regular paper at a time while 15000 can hold 270 sheets. Another benefit is that it can work with heavier sheets of paper, like cardstock and coverstock.
While 2720 is good for regular paper, you get larger sizes and better paper handling (not to mention the document feeder and automatic duplex printing) with the 15000.

Epson Ecotank 2720 vs 15000: Printing Options
It’s good to know what printing options are available. Nearly all printers offer wired printing, and most now offer wireless printing options as well, but what printing methods are available with Epson Ecotank? Also, are there differences between Epson Ecotank 2720 and 15000?
Let’s start with the similarities. You get wired printing with both models. Simply use a USB cable to connect these printers to your computer and print whatever document you need. You can also use wireless printing through the Epson app, which is handy with Android and iOS devices. Another similarity is voice printing. You can use Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa to print, copy, or scan with these printers.
Now let’s see what you exclusively get with 15000. Aside from scanning and copying from the document feeder, another available option is using an Ethernet cable. This improves internet reliability and makes it much easier to print from this model.
Some people really love Ethernet cables, and if so, then you’ll love 15000. We still think it’s the winner due to the document feeder and automatic duplex printing. While you get many of the same features with both, the 15000 is easily the better of the two.

They share many of the same basic functions, use most of the same paper types, and have similar printing methods. However, in every regard, the 15000 is the better of the two.
It prints faster, has a document feeder, does automatic double-sided printing, faxes, includes a slot for 13×19 sheets, and lets you use an Ethernet cable. The only thing better about 2720 is its price, but this is what makes it better for the regular consumer while the 15000 is ideal for home offices and business users.
Final Thoughts
So, who wins in our Epson Ecotank ET-2720 vs ET-15000 review? The 15000 is definitely the better model here. It’s bigger, stronger, faster, and offers more features. If you want the strongest printer, then go for the 15000. However, if you only want a smaller printer and price is your priority, then 2720 has many of the same features but at a better price.
