Is Epson XP-4100 Good?
If you need an affordable inkjet home printer, then we would suggest the Epson XP-4100. While it does have lower page yield than a Canon printer, and it lacks a document feeder, it is quite affordable and it has many good special features that you were short of love.
At the same time we would have a hard time suggesting this for offices. The low page yield and lack of document feeder means that both scanning and copying will be very slow.
Epson 4100 vs Canon 4520: Functions
You should always check to see what functions you get with your printer. Each printer comes with different features such as copying, scanning, and other things. You always want to make sure to see what you’re getting with whichever model you choose. While both of them offer a good number of your features, we found the Canon offers more, and the document feeder makes it easier to copy, scan, and fax.
Let’s first go over the features you get with a Canon Pixma 4520. This printer offers printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. It also has auto duplex printing. The benefit of auto duplex printing is that it’s much easier to print on both sides of the sheet. Another feature you get with Canon Pixma is that it has a document feeder.
The document feeder allows you to put a stack of paper into the printer for bulk copying and scanning. Since this also offers faxing, this makes it much easier to fax over a stack of documents.
The Epson 4100 is pretty good, but by comparison it lacks a few features that you find with Canon Pixma. This printer is able to print, copy, scan, and has auto duplex printing. It does lack the feeder and faxing functions. If you only plan on copying or scanning one sheet at a time, then the lack of the theater should be fine. If you often scan and copy multiple documents, then you will find that the Canon Pixma is much better.
Epson XP-4100 vs Canon Pixma TR4520: Printing Speed
Doesn’t matter if you print a lot or a little, you always want to know the printing speed of whatever printer you’re looking at. This will let you know how quickly you can complete a document, and even helps if you only print a few sheets so that you know how long it will take to finish them. We found that while both are similar, the Epson Expression XP-4100 was a little faster than Canon Pixma TR4520.
The Canon Pixma TR4520 printing speed is 8.8 PPM for monochrome printing and 4.4 PPM for color printing. PPM stands for prints per minute. This is a metric that lets you know how long it takes for a printer to complete the document.
In general, this is a pretty good speed. While there are many printers that are faster, there aren’t that many that are faster at this price range.
While Epson 4100 isn’t that much faster, it is somewhat faster and especially so with monochrome printing. This printer has a 10 PPM monochrome printing rating, and a 5 PPM rating for color printing.
While neither are the fastest printers that you can find, we would definitely say that Epson is faster here. At the same time, the Canon Pixma is fairly quick and nearly as good as the Epson printer we are reviewing here.
Canon Pixma 4520 vs Epson 4100: Paper Size
You should always check to see what paper size your printer is able to support. This is especially true if you plan on printing with especially large or small sheets of paper. While both of these are about the same, we found that Epson supports one other paper type. However, we would call this a tie because they both support mostly the same paper sizes.
Canon TR4520 Paper Sizes
- Letter (8.5″ x 11″)
- Legal (8.5″ x 14″)
- A5 (148mm x 210mm)
- A4 (210mm x 297mm)
- Photo (4″ x 6″)
- Photo (5″ x 7″)
- Photo (8″ x 10″)
Epson XP4100 Paper Sizes
- Letter (8.5″ x 11″)
- Legal (8.5″ x 14″)
- A6 (105mm x 148mm)
- A5 (148mm x 210mm)
- A4 (210mm x 297mm)
- Photo (4″ x 6″)
- Photo (5″ x 7″)
- Photo (8″ x 10″)
In case you missed it, the Epson 4100 only includes one extra paper type. This would be the A6 paper size. While it does include this extra paper size, we would say this is basically a tie between them because they are the same otherwise.
